After-School Art Classes for Youth, Teens & Tweens

We offer a variety of classes in various disciplines to ages 3-5, 6-9 and 10-17. Each class is designed to spark curiosity and encourage problem solving while introducing a variety of mediums and materials.  With an emphasis on the creative process vs. the finished product, our classes offer a fun, enriching experience.


Ages 3-5

Tues., starting Tues, April 16,2024

Pre-K Adventures! Creatures & Critters

Budding artists will experiment with a wide variety of materials - wood, wire, paint, watercolor, modeling clay, found objects, fiber, etc - as they create fun animals and insects real and imagined. Students make decorative cardboard beasts, clay turtles & hedgehogs, shoe box critter habitats, piggy potato planters, etc. An assistant will be available if class size reaches 7 or above. We will take a break in the play yard between projects.

Art Lab: Mixed Media Magic

In Art Lab students explore materials both traditional and upcycled as they mix it up with charcoal, markers, paints, wood, wire, clay and collage materials. They will be given a description of their art project, examples by contemporary or modern masters and a demo before embarking on their own unique creations. This is an open-ended class producing different results for each student. For this session, we will introduce all new projects with a variety of new materials.

Studio Art: Drawing, Painting & Printmaking

Students will practice drawing, painting and printmaking with various materials including: charcoal, graphite, colored pencils, ink, markers, watercolor and acrylic and printing ink. They learn drawing techniques used in the studio such as shading, blending and building texture as well as the painting styles based on various modern and contemporary artists. New to this session is printmaking as students explore linocut, mono prints, gelli prints, stamping, and stenciling. This class is for beginning, intermediate and more advanced students as each project is scaled according to ability.

Thurs, starting April 18, 2025

Comics + Characters

Get into Character! Students will create their own characters with hands-on demos in shape language, exaggeration and facial expressions. They will then craft their own comics exploring visual storytelling using industry techniques. This is a great class for students interested in character design, animation, graphic novels, comics, and cartooning. For this session, Taryn will add more illustration and advanced character development while students create full comic strips. This class is scaled for both beginners and intermediate students.
